For the alternate versions of my resume, I decided to use a general manager of an MLB team and a waterpark manager as jobs to prompt ChatGPT to give me resumes suited to apply for those positions. After getting the results back I noticed that ChatGPT focused a lot on the first section of my resume: summary. It adjusted my description from “aspiring baseball professional” to “motivated baseball operations talent with hands-on experience in roster coordination, analytics, scouting report creation, and team logistics.” This helped my resume become more descriptive and show that I really cared about the baseball world–something that employers want to see in potential hires. After trying a couple times with the prompts for the resumes, I learned that the more specific I was, the better resume would result. I started off basic with “convert this resume into something I could use to apply for…”, then I had fun and asked for a “funny resume for the job of…”, finally I landed on “give me a professional resume that uses this resume as a model to apply for the job of…, use what you have learned about me in our previous conversations to make it better.”
